In many older homes, drafty windows and doors are a common problem. The cold winter air can seep through the cracks and seams, causing discomfort in living spaces. The good news is that there are several DIY solutions to help you keep your home’s interior warm and cozy during the winter months.

One of the easiest ways to seal up drafty windows and doors is with weather stripping. This is a simple product that creates an airtight seal around openings to prevent air infiltration. It comes in different shapes and sizes so you can find something suitable for your windows or doors. To apply, simply cut the weather stripping to size using scissors, peel off the adhesive backing and press it into place along the sides of doors and window openings. Make sure that it fits snugly so that no gaps or holes remain between the edge of your door frame or window sill.

You can also use silicone caulk as a DIY solution for drafty windows and doors. Silicone caulk is used for many home improvement projects because of its excellent moisture-resistant properties; it will not only block out drafts but also protect against moisture damage from rain or snow coming into your home through gaps in windowsills or doorframes. To use this method, first clean off any dirt or debris from surfaces before applying caulking in thin layers along edges of window frames or along the sides of door jambs where drafts may be entering from outside. Allow time for each layer to dry before adding additional layers until all areas are completely sealed off from air infiltration.

Drafts can also be blocked out by using insulating panels on your windows or doors. These panels are made from various materials such as polystyrene foam, polyethylene plastic, fiberglass and other textiles which provide excellent insulation against cold air entering through cracks and crevices around windowsills, under door frames etc. They come pre-cut with adhesive backing so they’re easy to install without having to make any cuts yourself; simply peel off the backing paper and press them firmly onto surfaces around openings where drafts could be getting into your home’s interior spaces throughout winter months.

Finally, you can add insulation material such as fiberglass batting around window frames and door jambs to further block out cold winter drafts from entering into living spaces inside your home during colder weather months. This type of insulation product comes pre-cut with sticky adhesive backing which makes installation incredibly easy; simply attach sections directly onto windowsill corners or around door frames where gaps may exist between them and walls allowing cold air inside during winter months.

These DIY solutions are great ways to improve energy efficiency in older homes while keeping them warm during colder winter months while protecting against both moisture damage caused by rain/snow leaking in through cracks as well as uncomfortable temperatures created by cold outdoor air infiltrating living spaces indoors throughout winter months; thus helping homeowners save money on energy costs associated with heating their homes over long periods of time without breaking their budgets due to costly professional repairs!
