Except for Mount Rushmore, South Dakota isn’t known for much, and that rings true for education as well. According to Forbes, the state’s top schools are Augustana University, South Dakota School of Mines and Technology, and South Dakota State University - none of which even crack the top 350, which puts the Mount Rushmore State in 40th place for quality of education. While 31 percent of South Dakotan adults have obtained a bachelor's degree, a little more than one-fifth never finished their college education. South Dakota also has some of the worst amounts of student debt in the nation; 74 percent of graduates have debt to pay off. Pictured are students at South Dakota School of Mines and Technology.
